Phare Amedee is a lighthouse located on Amedee Island, which is a small coral island in the South Pacific Ocean off the coast of Nouméa, New Caledonia. The lighthouse was built in Paris and transported to Amedee Island in 1862, where it was assembled by French engineers. The lighthouse stands at a height of 56 meters (184 feet) and is the tallest metal lighthouse in the world.
Phare Amedee is a popular tourist destination and visitors can climb to the top of the lighthouse for a panoramic view of the island and the surrounding ocean. The island is also home to a marine reserve, where visitors can go snorkeling or scuba diving to explore the coral reef and the marine life that inhabits it.
In addition to its historical and tourist significance, Phare Amedee is also an important navigational aid for ships traveling in the South Pacific. The lighthouse is operated by the French navy and is equipped with a powerful light that can be seen from up to 22 nautical miles away.
