Amédée Island — An Island with a Historic Landmark

amede island

Amédée Island (Îlot Amédée) is a tiny coral islet located about 24 kilometers (15 miles) south-southeast of Nouméa, New Caledonia. It is one of the region’s most famous and popular day-trip destinations, sitting right in the middle of a protected marine reserve that is part of New Caledonia’s UNESCO World Heritage-listed lagoons.

Discover Amédée Island and its distinctive lighthouse. Enjoy the coastal scenery, clear lagoon waters and surrounding coral reefs, with time to relax on the beach or explore beneath the surface with your snorkelling equipment.

Plan Your4 islands Excursions each day

Select the available date and departure for each island separately. This combo includes three distinct excursions, allowing you to organise your island visits around your stay in Noumea.

Bring swimwear, a towel, sun protection and drinking water. Check the inclusions and optional extras displayed when booking, and respect the islands’ wildlife and marine habitats throughout your visit.

SIGNAL ISLAND

SWIM   AND SNORKELS  WITH TURTLES AND UNDER WATER MARINE TRIAL

Signal Island (Îlot Signal) is a small, uninhabited coral islet located in the lagoon northwest of Nouméa, New Caledonia. Surrounded by crystal-clear turquoise waters and vibrant coral reefs, it is a popular destination for day trips, swimming, and snorkeling.

Historically, the island played an important role in maritime navigation as a strategic signaling point for ships approaching the barrier reef passes. It is also historically significant because British explorer Captain James Cook anchored nearby during his 1774 voyage when mapping the archipelago. Today, it forms part of the protected marine reserve network, offering a tranquil nature escape rich in marine biodiversity.

Marine Life & Snorkeling: Because the island is a protected marine reserve, fishing and collecting shells are strictly prohibited. This has allowed marine life to thrive, making it an incredible spot for snorkeling, scuba diving, and viewing coral reefs, tropical fish, sea turtles, and occasional reef sharks.
